Carlos Reyes is a Spanish interpreter and the Lead Court Interpreter for the Courts in Yavapai County. Mr. Reyes has been an interpreter since 2009. Before becoming a court interpreter, Mr. Reyes was a Diesel Technician by trade and worked in the field for over 6 years as a service technician.
Automotive Fundamentals for Court Interpreters
Abstract: This class is geared towards helping the interpreter understand the basics of automotive technology. We will be going over a vehicle's major components and how they help the interpreter prepare for civil and criminal matters where understanding of this subject matter is necessary.
Heavy Duty Truck Fundamentals and some FMCSA Trucking and Commercial Vehicle Violations for Court Interpreters
Abstract: In this session, we will be going over the basics of heavy-duty truck systems. We will go over the major components of a heavy-duty truck and how they function. We will also cover some of the most common Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration trucking violations interpreters encounter in the courtroom.
David Svoboda is the Language Access Coordinator for the Arizona Supreme Court, Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC). Prior to joining the AOC, Mr. Svoboda worked for eleven years as a staff Spanish interpreter for the Superior Court of Arizona in Maricopa County. Mr. Svoboda is a federally- and state-certified court interpreter. He has given numerous training sessions on interpreter ethics, modal skills, and other court interpreting-related subjects for interpreters, court staff, and leadership. He is a graduate of the Monterey Institute of International Studies where he earned his master’s degree in Translation and Interpretation.
ACICP Updates: CEUs, Fees, & More!
Abstract: This session will inform attendees about important updates regarding the Arizona Court Interpreter Credentialing Program (ACICP). Topics that will be covered include: 1) documenting compliance with continuing education requirements as we approach the end of the current compliance period; 2) upcoming changes to the program’s fee schedule; and 3) the implementation of a new rescheduling policy. There will be ample time for Q&A so bring your questions about the credentialing program and get answers straight from the source. This session is geared towards interpreters credentialed by ACICP (all tier levels) and those who are currently engaged with testing or planning to test in the near future.

Courtesy reminder, The Arizona Code of Judicial Administration (ACJA) § 7-301 was adopted to promote court interpreters’ continuing professional development credentialed by the Arizona Court Interpreter Credentialing Program (ACICP). ACICP expects CEUs to be submitted by December 31st, 2024.
